FEFCO 0306 Box Template Generator
Tray with shallow rim lid. A full-depth tray with a shallow lid that sits over the top like a frame rather than covering the whole box. Both pieces carry a plain square ear at each corner, slit free of one wall and folded in behind the other — no tabs, no glue. Uses very little board for the lid while still closing the case.
Checked against the plate. This blank has been compared side by side with the drawing in the FEFCO Code, 12th Edition, and matches. That is a statement about the drawing, not a guarantee — always cut and fold a sample before committing to a die.
What is FEFCO 0306?
FEFCO 0306 is built from two or more pieces, most often a separate lid over a body, so the depth can vary with what is packed. A full-depth tray with a shallow lid that sits over the top like a frame rather than covering the whole box. Both pieces carry a plain square ear at each corner, slit free of one wall and folded in behind the other — no tabs, no glue. Uses very little board for the lid while still closing the case.
Uses
- Transit and e-commerce packing, where the box is handled by a carrier
- Jobs where the depth or the fit has to be adjusted after packing
- High-volume packing lines, since a pre-glued blank erects in one movement
Advantages
- Arrives glued and flat, and erects quickly by hand or by machine
- The two parts can be made from different boards, or printed differently
Disadvantages
- Needs 2 separate pieces, so there is more than one tool and more than one part to handle
- The glued joint sets the minimum order — short runs are rarely economical
Typical industries
- General distribution and warehousing
Recommended board grades
Single wall B or C flute is usual. The lid and body are often the same board; a heavier body under a lighter lid is worth considering where only the body carries the stack.

Measured against the FEFCO p33 plate with scripts/plate-diff.py. Tray: base 77.4 x 58.0 inside walls 28.8 deep, a plain rectangular ear at each corner hinged to the SIDE wall on the base line (crease y=0.249 carried out across the corner square at x 0.012..0.102) and cut free of the end wall by a 2.0-wide slit at x 0.110..0.118. Lid: base 78.6 x 59.4 inside walls 15.2 — 0.53 of the tray's, not the 0.2 that used to be set here — with the same ear hinged the OTHER way, on the vertical crease x=0.631 to the end wall and slit free of the side wall at y 0.237..0.249. MATCH at 0.982 (cut 1.000/1.000, crease 1.000/1.000). An earlier note here recorded a zigzag interlocking tab at these corners; there is no such shape anywhere on the page. Not promoted to verified: 0303 and 0307 share this crease topology and differ in the corner's cut profile alone.
