What is Auto-bottom, tuck to front?
Auto-bottom, tuck to front is a folding carton with a glued side seam, closing at each end with a tuck, a lock or a glued flap. The crash-lock base with the top tuck folding from the front. Everything good about an auto-bottom, with the opening on the front face.
Uses
- Retail and gift packaging, where the box is seen by the customer
- High-volume packing lines, since a pre-glued blank erects in one movement
Advantages
- Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
- Arrives glued and flat, and erects quickly by hand or by machine
Disadvantages
- The glued joint sets the minimum order — short runs are rarely economical

ECMA 2022 code moved here from AUTO. The p.29 plate puts the tuck tongue's fold line wholly over the third panel from the glue seam and starts the lid hinge at the second, leaving panel 1 with no top flap — which is this template, not the tuck-to-back one. The code's own last pair (03) agrees, read the way RTE's A20.20.03.01 is.
