What is Straight Tuck End (STE)?
Straight Tuck End (STE) is a folding carton with a glued side seam, closing at each end with a tuck, a lock or a glued flap. Both tuck flaps fold from the back panel, so both tuck in the same direction and the front face stays completely clean. The choice when the front panel is the hero of the artwork.
Uses
- Retail and gift packaging, where the box is seen by the customer
Advantages
- Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
- Locks closed without glue or tape, which saves a consumable and a step
Disadvantages
- Hand-locking takes longer per box than a taped or glued closure

Recommended board grades
Folding boxboard or solid bleached board, typically 250–450 microns. Heavier board for larger cartons, lighter where the carton is filled by machine.

Not previously claimed. Found from the coding rules on ECMA p.16 (group A: 1st pair = bottom closure type, 2nd = top, 3rd/4th = the panel, numbered from the glue seam, each hinges from): 20.20 is tuck/tuck, and both ends hinging from panel 01 (back) gives 01.01 — matching RTE's own confirmed A20.20.03.01 (tuck/tuck, bottom off panel 3/front, top off panel 1/back) and RTE-INV's A20.20.01.03, which fix the panel numbering used here. The plate at p.24 draws exactly that: both tuck lids over the SAME column, one continuous fold pattern top and bottom.
