What is Tapered tray?
Tapered tray is a folding carton of a special construction. A glued tray whose base is a trapezium, so the two side walls splay and the tray nests inside the one below it. Common for bakery and produce.
Uses
- High-volume packing lines, since a pre-glued blank erects in one movement
Advantages
- Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
- Arrives glued and flat, and erects quickly by hand or by machine
Disadvantages
- The glued joint sets the minimum order — short runs are rarely economical

Recommended board grades
Folding boxboard or solid bleached board, typically 250–450 microns. Heavier board for larger cartons, lighter where the carton is filled by machine.

Scored against the ECMA 2022 plate on page 55 with scripts/plate-diff.py: 1.000, MATCH (cut found 0.925, no cut of ours the plate lacks, creases 1.00 both ways). The shortfall in cut coverage is the plate's own dimension arrows, which are drawn solid and so read as cut: the "b" arrow across the narrow wall and the "H" arrow across a side wall come to 8.8% of the plate's cut ink and no die can contain them.
