What is Hand-erected hanging carton?
Hand-erected hanging carton is a carton insert or fitment. A tuck carton made without a glue lap: the back wall is two end panels that overlap and lock through a slit in each. The top flap carries a keyhole for a shop rail and the bottom lid a radiused finger hole for opening.
Uses
- Retail and gift packaging, where the box is seen by the customer
- High-volume packing lines, since a pre-glued blank erects in one movement
Advantages
- Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
- Arrives glued and flat, and erects quickly by hand or by machine
Disadvantages
- The glued joint sets the minimum order — short runs are rarely economical

Folding boxboard or solid bleached board, typically 250–450 microns. Heavier board for larger cartons, lighter where the carton is filled by machine.

Measured against the p.75 plate with scripts/plate-diff.py: score 0.992, MATCH, cut 1.000 found / 1.000 extra, crease 1.000 found / 0.992 extra. Panel run 14.85, 13.28, 26.56, 13.28, 14.85 over a body 49.80 tall, against the plate's own A = 49.80, B = 26.56, H = 13.28. There is no glue lap on the blank: 2 x 14.85 - 26.56 = 3.14, so the two end panels overlap to make the fourth wall and each carries a 9.96 slit 4.98 in from its crease. Top and bottom carry the same 13.28 + 16.60 + 9.96 bands, which is what centres the body on the 129.49 sheet. The end panels are chamfered at the top corner only and left square at the bottom — that asymmetry is in the plate. The keyhole's circle is drawn at radius 3.21 about a centre 6.43 below the crease, which is where the plate's flattened curve puts it.
