Gable top, open base Box Template Generator
Gable top, open base. The milk-carton peak: the top folds up into a ridge and a tapered flap folds over it and locks into a slot in the opposite roof panel. No glue and no tape on top, and it opens and closes again as often as you like.
Checked against the plate. This blank has been compared side by side with the drawing in the FEFCO Code, 12th Edition, and matches. That is a statement about the drawing, not a guarantee — always cut and fold a sample before committing to a die.
What is Gable top, open base?
Gable top, open base is a folding carton with a glued side seam, closing at each end with a tuck, a lock or a glued flap. The milk-carton peak: the top folds up into a ridge and a tapered flap folds over it and locks into a slot in the opposite roof panel. No glue and no tape on top, and it opens and closes again as often as you like.
Uses
- Retail and gift packaging, where the box is seen by the customer
- High-volume packing lines, since a pre-glued blank erects in one movement
Advantages
- Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
- Arrives glued and flat, and erects quickly by hand or by machine
Disadvantages
- The glued joint sets the minimum order — short runs are rarely economical
Typical industries
- General packing and light manufacturing
Recommended board grades
Folding boxboard or solid bleached board, typically 250–450 microns. Heavier board for larger cartons, lighter where the carton is filled by machine.

ECMA 2022 code newly claimed. Closure 75 is named on p.17 of the book itself — "gable top closure with locking flap" — and the p.20 plate draws the milk-carton peak: a band the carton depth deep across the whole blank, glue lap included, with the two front/back panels as roof panels, the two side panels folded as gable ends on a V of creases running from the middle of each top edge down to its two corners, a locking flap the same depth again on the third panel from the glue seam, and the slot it locks into cut half the panel width long across the middle of the roof panel opposite. The base is 01, no flaps.
