What is Tuck Top, open bottom?
Tuck Top, open bottom is a folding carton with a glued side seam, closing at each end with a tuck, a lock or a glued flap. Closes at the top only — designed to drop over a product that sits on a base or a tray. Also used as a lightweight lid.
Uses
- General packing where a simple, economical board box is wanted
Advantages
- Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
- Locks closed without glue or tape, which saves a consumable and a step
Disadvantages
- Hand-locking takes longer per box than a taped or glued closure

Folding boxboard or solid bleached board, typically 250–450 microns. Heavier board for larger cartons, lighter where the carton is filled by machine.
