What is FEFCO 0216?

FEFCO 0216 is cut from one piece, glued or stitched along a single manufacturer’s joint, and shipped flat. Flaps fold in at both ends to close it. Half-width flaps on top and a bottom whose four flaps are cut to tuck under one another and lock on a tab — the 1-2-3 bottom. No glue and no tape underneath, and it closes in one movement.

Uses

• High-volume packing lines, since a pre-glued blank erects in one movement

Advantages

• Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
• Arrives glued and flat, and erects quickly by hand or by machine
• The most widely made board box there is, so it is quick to source and cheap per unit

Disadvantages

• The glued joint sets the minimum order — short runs are rarely economical
• The flaps meet but do not overlap, so the ends are the weakest part of the box

Recommended board grades

Single wall B or C flute for most shipping. Double wall BC or EB where the load is heavy, the box is large, or it will be stacked several high in a warehouse.
