On top the breadth-panel flaps split into two equal quarter-breadth bands — a rim that folds flat, then a liner that folds on down inside the case — while the length-panel flaps stay a single half-breadth flap with no split.

What is FEFCO 0232?

FEFCO 0232 is cut from one piece, glued or stitched along a single manufacturer’s joint, and shipped flat. Flaps fold in at both ends to close it. A plain half-breadth flap closes the bottom on all four panels, ordinary RSC style. On top the breadth-panel flaps split into two equal quarter-breadth bands — a rim that folds flat, then a liner that folds on down inside the case — while the length-panel flaps stay a single half-breadth flap with no split.

Uses

Transit and e-commerce packing, where the box is handled by a carrier
Protecting or separating goods inside a larger case

Advantages

Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
The most widely made board box there is, so it is quick to source and cheap per unit
Cut from offcuts or lighter board than the outer case, so it adds little cost

Disadvantages

The flaps meet but do not overlap, so the ends are the weakest part of the box

Single wall B or C flute for most shipping. Double wall BC or EB where the load is heavy, the box is large, or it will be stacked several high in a warehouse.
