Full-breadth flaps all round, except that one long top flap is shaped: it narrows on a 60° diagonal to a barb at half the breadth, then sweeps up to a narrow top edge. The opposite top flap carries a pair of slanted knife slits the barbs snap into, so the case locks shut without tape.

What is FEFCO 0218?

FEFCO 0218 is cut from one piece, glued or stitched along a single manufacturer’s joint, and shipped flat. Flaps fold in at both ends to close it. Uses

Transit and e-commerce packing, where the box is handled by a carrier

Advantages

Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
Locks closed without glue or tape, which saves a consumable and a step
The most widely made board box there is, so it is quick to source and cheap per unit

Disadvantages

The flaps meet but do not overlap, so the ends are the weakest part of the box
Hand-locking takes longer per box than a taped or glued closure
