Uses

General packing where a simple, economical board box is wanted

Advantages

Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
Locks closed without glue or tape, which saves a consumable and a step

Disadvantages

The flaps meet but do not overlap, so the ends are the weakest part of the box
Hand-locking takes longer per box than a taped or glued closure
