What is FEFCO 0231?

FEFCO 0231 is cut from one piece, glued or stitched along a single manufacturer’s joint, and shipped flat. Flaps fold in at both ends to close it. The same split-body trick run the other way: the body starts and ends on a half-breadth panel, so the overlap stands up as a divider across the width rather than along the length.

Uses

Transit and e-commerce packing, where the box is handled by a carrier
Protecting or separating goods inside a larger case

Advantages

Cut from a single blank, so there is one tool and one part to stock
The most widely made board box there is, so it is quick to source and cheap per unit
Cut from offcuts or lighter board than the outer case, so it adds little cost

Disadvantages

The flaps meet but do not overlap, so the ends are the weakest part of the box
